Begonia U402's identity has finally been confirmed by Dr. Mark Tebbitt. It is a dark variant of Begonia ulmifolia. This plant was collected in Venezuela and has been grown and circulated under the American Begonia Societies unidentified species number U402. This is a fast growing shrub-like begonia. It has a very bushy growth habit and light pink flowers. Give it strong light but not hot sun and room to spread.

Care of Begonia ulmifolia (dark variant):

  • Strong filtered light
  • 45 to 95 degrees
  • 15 to 18in tall
  • Let it get slightly dry between waterings
