Begonia rex, the species. There are several Begonia rex species circulating, but we believe this is the real one. This plant was originally collected in Yunnan, China. The large leaves have dark olive green areas in the center of the leaf and on the leaf margin. Between these two green areas is a wide band of silver. The back of the leaf is red. The leaf blade is sparsely covered with long white hairs. These hairs also densely cover the leaf petiole. The flowers are light pink. See the picture in the photo gallery. This species likes extra humidity. It will grow well in a humid greenhouse or terrarium.
