Begonia paulensis is a compact shrub-like species from Brazil. The oval leaves are a light green and have a puckered texture. The leaf petioles are densely covered with white hairs. The pattern of the recessed veins resembles a spiderweb and gives this species one of its common names, "The Spiderweb Begonia". This species grows fast in mild temperatures but slows down in extremes of high heat. B. paulensis likes a lot extra humidity & does best in an enclosed terrarium. This begonia is quite difficult and is for experienced begonia growers; it is likely to lose a number of leaves in transit and/or have a number of leaves break but this does not affect the overall health of the plant.
Care of Begonia paulensis:
Shade to partial shade, temp. 45 to 85 degrees, 12 to 18 in. tall, allow getting slightly dry between watering.
Family: Begoniaceae
This plant is shipped in a 3 - 4 inch pot.
