Begonia 'Hugh Mc Lauchlan' is a very attractive small rex type begonia. The narrow leaves are bright pink with silver markings and black along the main veins. It is low growing and would do good in a medium sized terrarium or in a humid greenhouse or garden room. This little treasure was named after a wonderful begonia ambassador from Scotland. Hugh entertained Begonia members at several National Conventions and hosted begonia enthusiasts in his home in Glasgow, Scotland. He was very active in the Scottish Begonia Society and in promoting begonias in the UK. Like many rex hybrids, the colors in the leaves tend to vary depending on season. Colors tend to dull in the heat of summer but will become more vibrant again as the weather cools.
(Hoefnagels, The Netherlands )
Shade to partial shade, temp. 50 to 95 degrees, 4 to 6in. tall, allow getting slightly dry between waterings.
