Rhipsalis baccifera subsp. baccifera is an epiphytic cactus endemic to the tropics of South and Central America with several subspecies found throughout Africa, and Sri Lanka. It is the only cactus species naturally occurring outside of the Americas. It is believed that seeds may have been carried to other continents by migratory birds. This cactus grows as a cascade of smooth branching stems that produce small while flowers and berries. It is a tropical species that requires more water and humidity than its desert cousins.
