Begonia 'Kevin Whitecotton' is one of our new rhizomatous hybrids. It was named after a very good friend who lost his battle with cancer in January. Kevin was one of the best friends a person could ever wish to have. This plant is named in honor of him. This was a cross of the Mexican miniature species B. bowerae var. nigramarga and the Australian hybrid B. 'Angel Glow'. The small leaves are usually olive green with dark chocolate markings in them. Like 'Angel Glow' the color of the leaves can change depending on light and temperature, from olive green and chocolate to copper, red and chocolate. The leaf margin is lined short light colored hairs. The growth habit is full and compact. It has pink flowers that rise in clusters above the foliage in the late winter and early spring. These flowers only appear when the plant is getting natural day lengths. So if you want your plant to bloom grow it where the plant will be in the dark when the sun goes down. That is don't grow it in a room where the lights are on late at night.
