Justicia betonica, or the White Shrimp Plant, is a small woody shrub native to South Africa. It grows 2-7 feet tall with purplish stems and ovate green leaves. It produces dense flower spikes at the top of the stems with white bract with green veins and lilac flowers. It can be grown outdoors in shade or semi-shade, or even full sun in cooler climates. It is frost sensitive and will die back in the winter if grown outdoors, but will send up new shoots in the spring.
