Begonia gemella is a new species for us. It is trailing and native to the Island of Sulawesi, which is part of Indonesia. The bright green leaves are more or less round with shallow lobes and a wavey leaf margin lined with tiny red hairs. It has a red dot at the point of petiole attachment. The flowers are white and appear in small clusters close to the stems. It probably likes a little extra humidity but does fine in our greenhouse.
Care of Begonia gemella:
- Bright, indirect light
- 45 to 95 degrees
- Humidity 60% or more
- 5 to 8 inches tall
- Water when top two inches of soil are dry
Family: Begoniaceae
