Impatiens hawkeri is a New Guinea native that was not introduced to the US until the 1970s. Since then it has exploded in popularity and has become one of the most popular bedding plants today. This plant will tolerate shade and must be protected from full sun. I. hawkeri flowers usually come in shades of red, orange and coral, but we have not seen this one flower yet.
