Begonia hemsleyana variegata (formerly known as U404) is a form of the Chinese species, hemsleyana. The compound leaves are dark green and covered with lots of silver spots. When first introduced it was given the unidentified species number U404 by the American Begonia Society. It has now been identified as a form of hemsleyana. It is a rhizomatous begonia jointed at the soil surface, with upright stems. This makes a really exotic specimen plant. Give it a little extra humidity and keep from extreme heat. It does very well in a large terrarium or vivarium.

Care of Begonia hemsleyana variegata:

  • Bright, indirect light
  • 45 to 95 degrees
  • Humidity 60% or more
  • 10 to 12 in. tall
  • Water when top two inches of soil are dry

This plant is stunning, and though it came in the roughest shape out of every plant I ordered i’m sure it will bounce back!
