Nautilocalyx pictus ‘Jade’ is in the gesneriad family, Gesneriaceae. This is the same family as the African Violet and Streptocarpus.
This is a dark “bronze form “ of the species. The leaves are lance shaped and bronzy green. Under some light conditions it has a broad maroon stripe down the center of the leaf and a yellow green color on the sides. It this picture the bronze color is more pronounced and you can barely see the maroon center. The leaf texture is blistered or rugose .The back or the leaf is purplish. It has an upright, branching or bushy growth habit and makes a full plant. The stems are a purplish color. Our plants are about 8 to 10 inches tall.
Our plants have never bloomed. But the attractive foliage is an eye stopper. Give this plant bright light and a little extra humidity and it should thrive. Feed it with a water soluble house plant food about once a month.
