Crossandra pungens is a tropical shrub from East Africa. The narrow lance shaped leaves are dark green with beautiful silver veins. It has a compact growth habit. The bright yellow flowers are formed from a thick floral spikes. As the flower spike dries, seeds are formed inside these seed pods. These small seeds are shoot into the air with a crackle or pop, when moisture hits the seed pod. This gives rise to the common name “Firecracker Plant”. This plant likes bright light and keep slightly moist.
