Begonia ‘Taconite’ This newer hybrid introduced by Tim Anderson Gives us a lot of great things. It has beautiful dark foliage with a rich red reverse. The plant also flashes blue with a bright light like Begonia pavonina, except pavonia is a blue green color this one flashes royal blue.  To top it all off it is showing to be hardy to zone 7 outdoors.

Shade, temp. 20 to 95 degrees, 10 to 12in. tall, allow getting fairly dry between watering.

Family: Begoniaceae

Beautiful plant! The leaves are a dark greenish-black when viewed normally and the red stems have soft spikes. It’s a very intimidating looking plant. It can be difficult to view the blue iridescence at first, but what I do is shine my phone flashlight on the leaves and then shine at different angles until I can see the blue. It’s fascinating! The plant has put out three huge leaves in the few months that I’ve had it. I keep mine in a fairly shaded part of my house and water once or twice a week, depending on how the plant is looking. Leaves will droop and turn crispy brown on the tips if thirsty. Love love love this plant! Thank you Steve’s Leaves!

This is a very beautiful plant. It arrived with huge leaves that got slightly crumpled during shipping, but they flattened out nicely after a few days. It’s already grown four more leaves, with several more about to unfurl. It stands remarkably upright, and with the large dark leaves it makes an impressive specimen. It’s difficult to see the blue flash without a phone light or something, but that doesn’t reduce the beauty of the plant. I’m very happy with it
