Begonia 'Julie Newmar'
Begonia 'Julie Newmar' is a new rhizomatous hybrid created by Paul Tsamtsis of California. It won the best new hybrid award in 2010 at the American Begonia Convention in San Francisco. It was named after actress and begonia enthusiast Julie Newmar. The medium sized leaves are a strong green and covered with white hairs. Each leaf has an attractive double spiral at the point of petiole attachment. The leaves have a few light brown markings near the margins. The petioles are red and it has a rounded growth habit. The light pink flowers appear on tall spikes that rise above the foliage in late winter and early spring. This is an outstanding new cultivar.
