Begonia cathayana is a stunning Chinese species with dark velvet blue-green leaves contrasted by a vibrant burgundy reverse that seems to glow through the venation. The leaves have a similar blue flashback to B. pavonina (as seen in the pictures) indicating that this plant grows in low light conditions. This plant grows heartily in our greenhouse but may need to be provided with extra humidity when grown in a household. It readily produces bright orange flowers that add yet another colorful point of interest to this unique begonia. The coloration on the leaf changes during different times of year, lighting it is grow in, and temperatures.
